Community Health Nurse – Prenatal Clinic
The Community Health Nurse at KMHC’s Prenatal Clinic follows clients from their first appointment with the prenatal doctor, who delivers at Anna Laberge Hospital, through the first week at home with their baby.

In early pregnancy, we offer guidance to help you make informed decisions about your pregnancy, including:

  • Booking your first prenatal appointment.
  • Finding a prenatal doctor if you choose not to deliver at Anna Laberge.
  • Obtaining folic acid, prenatal vitamins, or medications for nausea and vomiting without a prescription.
  • Arranging necessary testing (dating ultrasound or blood work) before your first appointment, if needed.
  • Offering counseling and non-judgmental support if you decide not to continue with your pregnancy.

For clients followed at KMHC by Dr. St. Cyr, the nurse will monitor weight, blood pressure, and provide relevant teaching based on the stage of pregnancy, as well as manage pregnancy-related discomforts.

We also provide the pertussis vaccine to all pregnant community members and WinRho to Rh-negative mothers as needed.

Prenatal Classes
Classes are held about four times a year in collaboration with Tekanonhkwatsherane– Traditional Medicine. Topics include traditional medicine teas during pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, newborn care, and birth ceremonies and teachings.

Prenatal Nutrition Workshops
