Clinical Nutrition

Professional dietitians use the latest nutrition science to help clients understand the connection between food and their physical, mental, and emotional health. They provide personalized guidance to meet your nutritional needs and goals.

Dietitians support individuals through all life stages, from pregnancy to healthy aging, and assist in the treatment and prevention of various health conditions. They collaborate with other healthcare providers, such as doctors, wellness nurses, mental health nurses, and traditional medicine practitioners.

What to Expect:

  • Nutritional assessments to evaluate your needs and concerns.
  • Practical nutrition counseling and education.
  • Customized resources and tools based on your individual needs.
  • Follow-ups to track progress toward your health goals.

Community Nutrition

The KMHC nutrition team is committed to promoting Traditional Foods and healthy eating through community activities. They also support local groups in their food and nutrition-related initiatives.

Goals:

  • Enhance food literacy across all ages to promote wellness and prevent disease.
  • Advocate for culturally relevant health and nutritional resources in the community.

Sample Projects:

  • Hands-on food preparation activities in schools to expose students to healthy foods and develop cooking skills.
  • Cooking workshops in various settings to promote healthy eating and traditional foods.
  • Presentations for community organizations on a wide range of nutrition-related topics.
  • Kiosks at community events to promote healthy eating and provide resources for disease prevention.
  • Creation of up-to-date, evidence-based resources and tools for the community.

Referral Process:
While a referral from a healthcare provider (doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, etc.) is preferred, clients can also self-refer by calling the Community Health Unit Secretary. Due to a long waitlist, clients are prioritized based on the reason for their consult.

Appointments are available in person or by phone.
