Dr. Tehranifar Leaving KMHC in November

For immediate release

(Kahnawake – 17, Kenténha/October 2024) Tehsakotitsén:tha Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC) wishes to advise the community that, due to personal circumstances, Dr. Mitra Tehranifar will be retiring from KMHC’s Family Medicine department next month.

Dr. Tehranifar has been a member of the staff for the past fifteen years, where she has been an integral member of the Outpatient and Long Term Care units.

She was born in Tehran, Iran, and studied at one of the city’s top medical schools for seven years, completing four years of residency in obstetrics/gynecology. She moved to the United States to pursue her education in high risk pregnancies, completing a two year Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Her positive experiences working with the Navajo people in that area greatly influenced her decision to work in Kahnawà:ke, where she began working in January 2009 after completing the National Board of Family Medicine exams. In a letter of introduction to the KMHC staff, she said that she “felt at home (at KMHC)…I just had to work here.”

“Dr. Tehranifar has been an excellent colleague and a valuable resource person,” said Dr. Rachael Eniojukan, KMHC’s Director of Professional Services. “We most certainly appreciate her years of service helping to take care of our clients and residents. We’ll miss her, and wish her the very best for the future.”

Dr. Tehranifar has been in the process of contacting her many clients to advise them of her impending departure. Access to care remains a priority at KMHC, and the clinical team is working to support her clients/patients during this period of transition, pending arrival of new family physicians.

Her final day of work at KMHC will be Friday, November 22nd.
