Physiotherapy

The physiotherapist is a client-centered interdisciplinary team member who conducts physiotherapy assessment, treatment, education and management of outpatient clients and provides education on self-management and prevention. The physiotherapist is involved in the promotion of health and the profession.

What to expect:

  • Through evaluation and individual treatment programs, a physiotherapist treats a variety of musculoskeletal problems
  • Empowers client to achieve their highest level of independence and function possible by helping to relieve pain, weakness and stiffness
  • The aim is to develop a treatment program designed to meet the individuals’ abilities, lifestyle, age and specific goals for therapy

Treatment goals: Patient education, prevention, community health education.

Due to injury, inflammation or restricted movement in joints and soft tissue. Treatments can include the use of heat or cold; joint and soft tissue mobilization; and exercise.

May be needed after a disease, stroke, head or spinal cord injury or birth defect. The treatment involves teaching the client to coordinate basic movements needed for daily activities and exercises.

After injury, illness or surgery towards a client’s full potential and more useful movement. Techniques used include joint and soft tissue mobilization or stretching exercises

Following surgery, injury or disease. This can be achieved through exercise and electrical stimulation to help develop weakened muscles.

Due to injury, illness, surgery or disease. This is gained through an extensive exercise program designed to stimulate and reactivate muscles, tendons, etc.

Other Services: Foot orthotic clinic and the evaluation and ordering of specific medical devices.

  • Orthopedic, all ages
  • Adults with neurological conditions

Services not provided

  • physiotherapy services to children with development delay related issues
  • Clients who have had a recent cerebral vascular accident (stroke) are encouraged to receive therapy at centers that specialize in strokes.
  • Clients who have sustained a work-related injury are also directed elsewhere
